Everyone thinks the race is the spectacle. It is not. The race is the pretext. It gets two people into the same room: the one who made a promise about who they would become, and the one who has to keep it.

In ordinary life these two never meet. A high-delta day forces the meeting. The delta is not the contract. It is the receipt that the meeting happened.

A comfortable life is a delta-minimised life. A grey one. The colour comes from the distance between your worst hour and your best, lived in the same day.
